Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 13, 1982

We held an open session. I spoke about Israel's aggression against southern Lebanon and our opposition to the ceasefire that Israel declared, as well as how Iraq is attempting blackmail by conditioning permission for the passage of our aid on Iran's acceptance of a ceasefire.

Today, an aircraft transported our aid to Syria. Turkey allows one plane daily to cross through its airspace. During the parliamentary recess, I spoke to a group of female teacher trainees. Because we had two urgent items on the agenda, we also held an open session in the afternoon.

In the late afternoon, I spoke to governors from across the country who had gathered for a seminar. Afterward, I went to the party's Central Council. We had a discussion regarding the Hojjatieh Society and the arrest of Khosrow Qashqai; Engineer Taheri Shirazi claims that he was granted safe conduct to return, but the IRGC and the provincial governor's office reject this, asserting that he had come to Shiraz to flee the country. We also discussed the party's Mahallat branch, whose members had chanted slogans against Mr. [Fazlollah] Mahallati during a meeting held by Mr. [Abdolmajid] Ma'adikhah.

Tonight, Mr. Jalloud, the Prime Minister of Libya who is visiting Iran, attended the meeting of the heads of government. They want us to conclude a comprehensive cooperation and joint defense pact, but we insisted that agreements should begin with specific instances—for example, a military pact against Israel or establishing a school to train Islamic propagators. We ate dinner there. The Libyan officials are striving to exert influence over Iraq's future.

Today, news arrived that King Khalid, the King of Saudi Arabia, has passed away and Mr. Fahd has taken his place. At twelve-thirty at night, I returned home together with Ahmad Aqa, who was present at the meeting.
