Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 16, 1998

I was at home. The time passed by studying the history of Iran, the northern region of Aras, and Friday sermons and reports. Before noon, Mr. Akbar Safarian and Mohammad Reza Safarian came to solve the problem of missing Ali Agha Safarian in Iraq. Mohammad Reza, his son, explained about their trip to Iraq. They went to Baghdad from the Syrian border under the management of an Iraqi company, and after one night's stay and pilgrimage to Kazmin, they went to Samarra and after the pilgrimage, they went to Najaf for the night and spent three nights in Najaf and two nights in Karbala. The situation of food and transportation and the behavior of the Iraqi officers were not bad and then they returned to Kazemin. Ali Agha is missing in the shrine of Kazemin, and no matter how many times he has looked around, he has not seen any news. After returning, it was learned that he died due to an accident, and the body is in the hospital. For several days now, they have been waiting for the issuance of an Iraqi visa to go and deliver the body, which has not been done. I talked to Mohammad, Mahmoud and Mohsen for help. Mahmoud's opinion is that the issue has become political and the Iraqis have made visa work difficult.

Asr Mohsen came. He brought and discussed the documents that should be published in the book of memories of 1360 [= passing through the crisis]. Efat went to visit [Ms. Khadija Thaghafi], Imam's wife, before noon. Last night, he was a guest of Ahmad Agha's [Khomeini] family and said that their current important discussion was Mr. Karbaschi's statements in the court, regarding the giving of 13 million Tomans by the Imam to Ahmad Agha and then the money being given to Karbaschi to work with. Of course, Karbaschi corrected his words and raised the issue in a different way.
