Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – July 13, 1992

After the morning prayer, I did the work until ten o'clock. In the reports, the intensity of the Serb attacks in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the conflict in Kabul and the actions of the UN Security Council to support the Bosnian people are important. [Dr. Mohammadreza Mohammadi], the head of the welfare organization, came. He reported the needs and actions and asked for help.

Mr. [Ali] Larijani came. The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance was discussed. Mr. [Mohsen] Noorbakhsh, [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance] came. Reported the trip to Saudi Arabia. Political and economic issues were discussed. Salmani came for correction. Mr. Velayati and [Ali] Fallahian, [Intelligence Minister] and [Mustafa] Pourmohammadi came to resolve the differences regarding the number of intelligence agents abroad. Mr. [Hossein] Mahlouji, [Minister of Mines and Metals] and [Ali] Shams Ardakani, [CEO of Qeshm Free Zone] came for the issues of Qeshm Island.

In the evening, I attended the meeting of the government board. The issue of Mr. [Syed Mohammad] Khatami's resignation from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance was raised. I said we approve the ministers. I denied the rumors of a possible change of ministers.

After the government meeting, I went to meet the leadership. They talked about the economic conditions and management of the Shahid Foundation. They said Mr. [Mehdi] Karroubi wants to resign and according to the law, the president should appoint the supervisor. We discussed about the Ministries of Guidance and the Organization of Islamic Propaganda and the Forum for Economic Issues and Helping the Needy and the need to encourage the Basij and Hezbollah for social work. After the Maghrib and Isha prayers, I participated in his prayer meeting. After listening to the speech of Mr. [Abdullah] Fatemi Niya and Madhaghi, I went to my office at night. Dinner was brought from Imam Khomeini's Hosseiniyeh. I did some work and slept.

Before noon, I met Mr. Primakov, the special envoy of the Russian President, who brought Yeltsin's letter. This secret trip was for the purpose of negotiating the preparations for the development of relations. I sent a message that they should not trust the West too much and balance between East and West relations is necessary.

In the evening Mr. [Abdullah] Nouri, [Minister of the Interior] came. The new standards were discussed. They were allowed to use the soldiers' guarantee deposit money as a loan to buy cars for the police forces.

The Economic Council had a meeting. The regulations of free zones were approved. They informed that Efat, who was going to return from his trip to Rafsanjan, will come tomorrow. In order to consider Fati's condition, who has to come from his house to our house to receive me, I did not go home and stayed in the office, I did the work. I slept late in my office.
