We had an open session, continuing the discussion of the general principles of the budget. I chaired half of the session, and Mr. [Ali-Akbar] Parvaresh chaired the other half. In the afternoon, they brought the album of presidential candidates; apart from the four men, Messrs. Rajai, Asgaroladi, Sheibani, and Parvaresh, there were no well-known figures among them, and the election would be uncontested and lack enthusiasm.

In the afternoon, I attended a meeting of the Central Council of the Islamic Republican Party. The discussions concerned completing the party's leadership structure and the parliamentary and presidential by-elections. I came home for iftar. We discussed Mohsen's return from Belgium. The night before last, Mohsen had informed me by telephone that his exams were over and that he had a month free, which he wanted to spend in Iran. He asked me to get him a ticket. I told him that we would settle the matter by telephone that night, but we were unable to make contact.

These days, the important news concerns the arrest and punishment of members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq, Paykar, Fadaiyan-e Khalq Minority, Ranjbaran, the National Front, and other troublemakers. This has greatly frightened their supporters and slowed down their activities. Occasionally, grenades and Molotov cocktails are thrown in non-sensitive places. They leave their weapons and equipment in the streets. May God bring a good outcome to the consequences of this situation. It would have been much better if such a situation had never arisen, but they brought it about.
