Because of the budget, which according to the regulations required us to hold at least five hours of open session each day, we had scheduled the session to begin at six in the morning. However, until eight-thirty, the required quorum for a formal session was not reached because the number of representatives had decreased following the deaths of several members in the bombing of the Islamic Republican Party headquarters. The session began at eight-thirty. The discussion concerned the general principles of the budget.

I handed over the chairing of the session to Mr. Parvish, the First Deputy Speaker, and went to my office to attend to some unfinished business. I read the reports, replied to the letters I had received, and took care of my other tasks.

At noon, Messrs. [Mohammad] Rajaian, Safari, and Farazpour, representatives of Zanjan, Borazjan, and Astara, respectively, came to see me. They complained that after the dismissal of Bani-Sadr, they were being subjected to pressure and insults by the people, encouraged by revolutionary organizations and Hezbollah officials. I agreed to help ease the atmosphere. Some representatives from Tehran and Nishapur, as well as [Asadollah] Alipour and Mohammad Shojaei, had previously made similar complaints.

In the afternoon, Mr. Mousavi-Garmaroudi, Mr. Bani-Sadr's cultural adviser, came and was upset. He justified his presence alongside Bani-Sadr by recounting his history of political struggle and expressing his loyalty. He asked for help and said that he had been there with the approval of Ayatollah Sadouqi and had been assisting the Imam's line.

I gave an interview to a representative of the news agencies for Italy. Messrs. Mohsen Rezaei and [Reza] Seifollahi came and were pleased with the progress in uncovering the counterrevolutionary network, arresting people close to Bani-Sadr, and tracing him, which led to the People's Mojahedin Organization. They were even more satisfied with the Security Headquarters' decisive measures to suppress the counterrevolutionaries.

A group of members of the Land Development Organization came and asked for the passage of the urban land bill to be expedited.

Mr. Tayyeb from Channel Two of television came. He intended to run as a candidate from Naein and asked for help. I came home for iftar.

A report arrived about the special beach resort for military personnel in Nowshahr. To some extent, Islamic regulations were being observed. Men and women had been separated at the beach, and the atmosphere at the beach resorts was not objectionable, although there were still some women without the hijab. Their welfare conditions were good.
