Before attending the Friday prayer, I visited Mr. Khamenei at the Heart Hospital. His condition was not bad, but he was still a long way from a full recovery.
Around eleven in the morning, I went to the University of Tehran to lead the Friday prayer. Mr. [Mohammad-Sadegh] Haeri Shirazi was the speaker before the sermon. My meetings with people prevented me from listening to his remarks. My sermons were about trials and hypocrisy, and the Arabic section was about the overall situation of the Revolution. After the prayer, I came home. After resting, I cooked some food for iftar because Effat and the children were away.
In the afternoon, I attended a meeting of the Supreme Defense Council at the Joint Staff headquarters. General Fallahi said that Mr. Zahirnezhad, the commander of the Ground Forces, did not believe the Army should launch an offensive and preferred that the current situation be maintained. He also read a letter from Colonel Yaqub Habashi, one of the officers of the Ground Forces Staff, who believed that the Army was currently incapable of driving the Iraqi Army out and needed two or three newly established divisions, which could not be formed anytime soon. He gave a report on the ammunition situation, which was not bad. It was proposed that through negotiations and pressure, we should prevent the oil-producing countries from exporting oil indiscriminately, particularly Saudi Arabian oil, which, on such a large scale, was saturating world markets and tying the hands of oil exporters. This was placed on the agenda for further study. Through its unstinting assistance to Iraq, Saudi Arabia was in practice opposing us.
I discussed the Prime Ministership with Mr. Rajai and proposed Mr. Bahonar. I spent the night at home.
