Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 25, 1990

I reached my office at half past seven in the morning. I did everything to prepare for the trip. Mr. [Goders] Iftikhar Jahormi [Legal Adviser to the President] came. He gave a report on the trip to The Hague and the negotiations with the American side and about the claims of the parties and the issues of hostages and frozen property and commented on the continuation of the work.

Mr. Dr. [Hasan] Habibi [First Vice President] came for current affairs and expressed the opinion of the Guardian Council regarding the five-year plan, which has given minor objections to the resolution of the parliament and in favor of the government, and the council's disagreement with the Ministry of Interior regarding Tehran elections and next year's budget issues. We had two or three other meetings. Mr. Ashikh Abbas Pourmohammadi came. He criticized the pistachio [cooperative] company [in Rafsanjan] and [told] the travel schedule of the Imam's daughter to Rafsanjan.

I went to the airport at three in the afternoon and we flew to Khark Island. Dr. [Hasan] Rouhani and [Gholamreza Aghazadeh] Minister of Oil and Mr. [Hamid] Mirzadeh and another group and Yaser, Mahdi, Fati and Saeed [Lahoti] and... Efat stayed in Tehran to participate in the anniversary ceremony of Martyr Labafinejad. We arrived at five in the afternoon.

The official ceremony was done. Then I gave a short speech to the people in the sports stadium. I visited the greenhouse fruit and vegetable garden in Khark. After Maghrib and Isha prayers, talks were held with the officials of Kish Island and [Mr. Gholamreza Sahraian] the governor and [Mr. Ibrahim Fazel Ferdowsi] Imam of Juma Bushehr about the needs and shortages including water and sewage, electricity, health, college and fishing. We also had negotiations with the armed forces.

It was a formal dinner at the Ministry of Petroleum Guest House. Then there was a negotiation with the oil managers until ten o'clock in the night, and then it was time to sleep and rest. Mr. [Mohsen] Rezaei informed that four hypocrites tried to hijack a plane from Shiraz to Bandar Abbas, and they were injured and killed. We visited the island by car.
