After prayer, exercise, [listening to] news and reading reports, a group of students from Qom and Mashhad who work in the "key to the Quran" project came and reported. I spoke to them. Mr. [Syed Abbas] Kaushari [Madah Ahl al-Bayt] mentioned the calamity. Mr. [Mustafa] Mirslim [President's Adviser on Research] came and reported on the research centers.
Mr. [Gholamreza] Faruzesh [Minister of Jihad Formation] came. He talked about the services of Jihad and asked for confirmation and strengthening of Jihad. He referred to the duties of Jihad and Agriculture to be more specific and suggested that forests, pastures, livestock and fisheries should be from Jihad and the rest from agriculture. Dr. Habibi came for current affairs of the country.
In the evening, the Economic Council had a meeting that lasted until ten o'clock at night. In the evening, I received a letter from the General Staff [of the Armed Forces] that Ayatollah Khamenei had asked me not to oppose the proposal of the Defense Commission in the program, which is to reduce the budget of the institutions by 2% and add 40 billion tomans to the budget of the Armed Forces. I spoke to the leader on the phone. They gave up on this decision. It caused a lot of problems.
I came home late. It has rained a little and cleared the air of Tehran which was heavily polluted. At the end of the night, Mr. [Ali] Fallahian [Minister of Information] informed by phone that Mr. Montazeri gave a speech today in the meeting of his house and announced his opposition to borrowing from abroad. I consulted the leadership over the phone to find a solution.
Yasir reported that Mr. [Ali Akbar] Natiq Noori gave a speech today at the University Mosque [Tehran], and the radicals blocked the speech by sending salutations and slogans. He got angry and left. Unfortunately, the conflict is starting. In the parliament today, there was a conflict between two lines of thought regarding the reading of the representatives' letter to confirm the leadership's statements.
