Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – February 4, 1989

Mohsen came. He criticized the weak management and lack of attention to the priority of the Shahab 2 missile. At 9:30 in the morning, we went to the Nezaja College of Military Sciences. There was a graduation ceremony for officer students, awarding of prizes, speeches and a parade. Then we visited the dormitories and classrooms.

In the evening, the officials of the Union of Workers' Housing Cooperatives came. They reported work and consulted. They applied for the progress of the construction of a labor settlement between Karaj and Tehran. Mr. Dr. Marandi came. He laments the lack of health and treatment budgets and the problems of hospitals. I told him, with these budget problems and work obstacles, why do you oppose the development of Islamic Azad University, which is responsible for part of your workload?

Mr. [Ali] Aghamohammadi and [Masoud] Nili from the program and budget came and gave explanations about the economic situation of the country and the [first] five-year plan. Factories relied on freeing the entry of raw material goods with a free rate and free currency and changing the rate for Rial and Dollar. I worked in my office until half past seven.

I went to the meeting of the heads of forces. The discussion was about the coordination of our agents in Lebanon. It was agreed that the sovereignty rests with the ambassador, and the army, guidance, intelligence, etc. coordinate with the policy of the embassy and strengthen the embassy. In order to resolve the dispute of Islamic Azad University, it was decided to convert the 13 medical faculties of this university into 8 faculties and the admission of students will be limited to 700 students per year. I arrived home late.
