Last night and today there was some snow and rain; So far we are suffering from drought. We went to Tehran University for the opening of Ferdowsi Shahnameh Hazara World Congress. It was a good and glorious ceremony. I also spoke and sat at the feet of [Mr. Federico Mayor], the head of UNESCO [= United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization]. I went to my office around noon.
The head of UNESCO came to meet. I encouraged him to keep UNESCO independent and away from the domination of the powerful. He asked us to use our facilities to return America and England to UNESCO, who have angered [Mr. Mukhtar Ombo], the previous Secretary General, because of their political positions.
In the evening, the Supreme Council of National Security had a meeting. We discussed the conditions of the region in the assumption of the start of the war between Iraq and America, and the necessary decisions were made: not participating in the war and preventing them from crossing our territory to attack Iraq, if they want, and conducting maneuvers.
I worked until half past eight and came home. Mr. Reza Hashemian, [Director General of Environmental Protection of Kerman Province] came and asked for the establishment of the Faculty of Environment in Kerman.
