Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – December 20, 1983

I went to the parliament early in the morning and did the administrative work. We had a public meeting. The speeches before the order are mostly about the Imam's statements and defense of Ayatollah Montazeri. Especially one line of thought of the parliament relies more on the statements of Mr. Montazeri regarding the condemnation of the elimination of worthy forces; Because they have felt that they will not be nominated by credible institutions in the upcoming elections. Before noon, I left the meeting to Mr. Yazdi and came to my office.

I had a meeting with the commanders of the ground forces. I spoke to them in detail. A private conversation was held with Mr. Sayad [Shirazi] about future operations and hitting the military and industrial centers of Basra. Mr. Sharifi, the Director General of Parliament Services, came and resigned. They disagree with Mr. [Ali Mohammad] Besharti and the [Majlis] workers. In the afternoon, Mr. [Hossein] Mahlouji came and told about the weakness of the Minister of Mines and Metals and asked me not to support so many weak ministers - in his opinion - and not to make excuses for myself. Finally, they complained about the Prime Minister's suspicion and defended themselves.

Colonel Torabi came. He gave a report on the situation of the army and proposed the creation of a representative office of the Imam's advisory office in the navy, which I did not accept. He did not agree either; Because I am in charge of the Imam's consulting office in the army, such works must be approved by me. In the evening, Gendarmerie commander Col. Kochzadeh and his deputies came. He gave a report on the successes of the Gendarmerie in the fronts and fighting against smuggling. Gendarmerie has expanded a lot after the revolution. A group of managers and owners of transportation institutions came. They protested the existing style and the government's interference and restricting the private sector.

On the first night, the commander of the naval force came and gave a report on the state of the force and its reforms, and raised the problem of the naval officer college. He brought up the differences and lack of professors and students and the problem of not having ship guides who should be there to accompany the convoys. Several caravans going to Mahshahr have been delayed because of it. I said send the navy to try them. I met with the security guards of the parliament and talked about the Imam's words.
