In the morning, the heads of the education regions [Tehran] came; I spoke to them. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei came. The issues of the fronts and Iraq's invasion of Kuwait were discussed; They think it is a Soviet plan.
Literacy Movement Support Council had a meeting. They reported on the performance of the first stage and promised support for the second stage, which is for activities in the villages. In the evening, the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution had a meeting. The statute of academic jihad was in order; The majority does not have a favorable opinion on the principle of Jihad, so there was no progress.
At night, I stayed in my office to read reports and more about Kuwait issues; Day by day the problem becomes more acute. Mr. [Alireza] Moiri, [President's International Advisor] came and reported on his trip to Türkiye. Mr. [Turgut] Özal, [President of Türkiye], waited for him until late and they negotiated until one o'clock in the morning; He was worried and said that he will close Iraq's oil pipelines. He demanded Iran's cooperation in putting pressure on Iraq and gave a message to [Mr. George Bush], the President of the United States in this regard. It has been claimed that at this stage, military conflict is not in order, unless Iraq starts a conflict; For now, the plan is to solve the problem with economic and political pressure.
Dr. Rouhani, [Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council], came to explain the proposed amendments in the draft of Saddam's response letter and suggested that a trip to the Soviet Union be made to find out the opinion of the Russians.
