It was the last session before the summer recess. A great deal of work was done. Before the agenda, I spoke on the occasion of the second anniversary of the martyrdom of [Mohammad-Ali] Rajaei and [Mohammad-Javad] Bahonar.
At noon, Mr. [Mohammad] Akhlaqi-Nia, the representative from Sirjan, came to my office; he complained about the pressure the opposing faction was putting on him in Sirjan. He was accusing Messrs. [Morteza] Fahim [Kermani] and Pourmohammadi. In the afternoon, Mr. Moghadam came, introduced by Mr. [Abolqasem] Khazali. They have established a factory that produces construction materials; he wants to place it at the disposal of a charitable institution. A group of wholesale fruit and vegetable merchants from the [Tehran] produce market came and complained about the insults directed at them in the media, the [Tehran] municipality's lack of cooperation in building the new market, and the flogging of profiteers at the market.
A group of officials from Gilan-e Gharb came; they requested reinforcement of the city's air defenses. Mr. Taheri Khorramabadi came. He spoke about the uncertainty prevailing in the political unit of the Revolutionary Guards and the morale of its head. He is seeking a change and would like to go to Pakistan, but Pakistan has not accepted him. He quoted [General] Zia-ul-Haq's [head of Pakistan's military government] adviser as saying that the Iranian officials' failure to express displeasure over his being rejected had not been good and that if something had been expressed, it would have had an effect. Mr. Mohammadi, the representative of the advisory office in the Air Force, came. He gave a report from London; about the lack of qualifications of the naval procurement staff and the ambassador's weakness and ....
At night we had a [session of the] Supreme Defense Council; we made decisions regarding control of arms purchases and the war budget. I gave an interview. Late at night I came home.
