Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 21, 1993

I went to my office with a fever. Doctor [Hadi] Manafi came. He injected penicillin and gave antibiotics. The fever stopped by night. Night also came. I was supposed to take painkillers. He wanted to take a fever shot, so we decided to wait until tomorrow morning.

Mr. Aghazadeh [Oil Minister] came. There was some talk about his weak opinion in the parliament and future policies. I emphasized that in order to pass the stage of immediate works, from now on we should try to have more internal contractors and project management from ourselves.

Dr. [Mohammed Ali] Najafi, [Minister of Education] came and requested to hire more teachers and reduce the selection excuses. He is also upset about his low opinion.

Dr. [Syed Mohammad Reza] Hashemi [Golpaygani, Minister of Culture and Higher Education], came for the order of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and asked for permission to replace several deputies. He said that he did not let Dr. Moin hold a farewell meeting separate from the introduction meeting. It was discussed for the new secretary of the Supreme Council [Cultural Revolution]. He asked for a loan to complete the house.

In the evening, the committee of paragraph 3 of note had 29 meetings. Foreign exchange policies and our demand for Syria were in order. Syria gives the lira for pilgrims' expenses at four times the rate. It was decided that either they will adjust the price or we will stop [pilgrimage trips] and take the demand in a different way.

I came home at night. Chastity had returned from Mashhad. He is satisfied with his trip. Martyr [Mahdi] Iraqi's wife was also with him. He complained about [his son] Nader that he is not interested in worldly work.
