Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 18, 1993

I was in my office at half past eight in the morning. I saw the reports. The ladies who participated in the sports cultural Olympiad of the universities came and reported. I encouraged them and advised them to be moderate and observe Islamic traditions and rules and the requirements of the revolution.

The members of the office of Vahdat Hoza and University came. Mr. [Ali] Ahmadi, [Mohammad Taqi] Misbah [Yazdi] and [Mahmoud] Mohammadi Iraqi reported and asked for help; I promised to help. Mr. [Ali Mohammad] Basharti, [Interior Minister] came. He told some of his plan and asked for permission to change three deputies. He said [Mr. Gholamhossein Karbaschi], the mayor of Tehran will keep it.

The founding group of the Cancer Institute Foundation came. They are a combination of experts and doctors, and they have a huge plan that they say costs ten billion tomans. Dr. Shariat, Garami and Aladdini spoke. They want twenty hectares of land and acceptance of the chairmanship of the board of trustees. I accepted the first and did not accept the second. I encouraged them and wrote to Jihad Sazendagi to give them land from the natural resources outside the city.

In the evening, the first meeting of the new government was held. We had recommendations and reminders for the ministers. There was some talk about the reason for Mr. Noorbakhsh not voting. We had approvals regarding the participation of more women in judging. We took a group photo.

I returned to my office. I stayed the night and did the work. Dr. Velayati told the report of the trip to Azerbaijan and the memorandums of understanding.
