Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 13, 1983

I was at home all day. Mr. Engineer Morovat came and consulted about the proposal that had been made to him to become Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and outlined a plan. We also talked about the construction of the homes for members of parliament—which we are building next to the old National Assembly. Mr. [Mir-Hossein Mousavi], the prime minister, informed me by telephone that today two missiles had been fired by Iraq at Andimeshk, one of which had caused considerable damage. By night, the news was complete; there had been nearly 30 martyrs and 200 wounded. Part of my time was spent writing the rest of the article on the martyrs of the Seventh of Tir [The Tale of Separation], and part was spent revising the final statement of the session of the [Assembly of] Experts.

In the afternoon, Mehdi, the son of Mr. Sheikh Hossein Hashemian, had come from the Valfajr 3 front. He gave an account of the operation; he held a briefing for the commanders. Mr. Reza Hashemian and Mr. Sheikh Hossein's wife and child also came. Mr. Qoreishi also came from Rafsanjan, and the disagreement among the clerics in Rafsanjan was discussed.

Mr. Mahmoudi from Gilan-e Gharb informed me by telephone that Iraqi aircraft had attacked the villages around the city today, and that the people were complaining about the weakness of the air defenses. I spoke with the [Army] Joint Staff. It was decided to add several anti-aircraft guns. My brother Mohammad also came. He is worried about the new moves by his opponents. Ahmad Aqa called and said that Imam's view is that I should accept the parliament's representation on the [supervisory] council of IRIB.
