Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – August 11, 1983

I worked in my office until seven in the morning. I wrote the Persian text of the Arabic Friday prayer sermon and sent it for translation. The news of the bombing of Gilan-e Gharb was confirmed; the rest of the people have left the city; they have every right to. Before the order of business, I spoke briefly about this. The speaker before the order of business was Engineer [Mehdi] Bazargan. Because he questioned the freedom of the elections, some of the representatives objected to him. Most of the representatives waited. They want to undermine the elections.

Mr. [Abbas] Abbasi, representative of [Minab], came and complained about the customs office of Hormozgan and wanted help for Minab. Mr. [Seyyed Hossein] Mousavi [Tabrizi], Prosecutor General of the Revolution, came. He wanted help regarding support for the students who work in the revolutionary courts; to facilitate their education and employment, and consulted about the trial of the Tudeh members. Mr. [Ali] Movahedi Savji came; he reported on the situation at the fronts and asked about provincial interference in some matters - above the law -; I explained. In the afternoon, the members of the War Week organizing headquarters came. They stated their program and I gave my opinion. Major Torabi came and brought some reports. A group of employees of the Defense Industries Organization, the University Jihad and graduates of India and... came; they gave reports and I spoke to them at length.  

At night, in my office, we had a meeting of the presidium of the Assembly of Experts; we made decisions about the venue, the announcement and the broadcasting of the proceedings. They were guests of the Assembly for dinner.
