The points made regarding the budget of the Presidential Palace—sixteen million tomans for building renovation, a huge administrative budget, and a secret presidential budget—proved effective.
Mr. Khamenei departed for Kurdistan. From the airport, he sent a document regarding Mr. Banisadr's statements in the presence of the Imam, in response to the Imam's objection to not transferring 175mm artillery to Abadan. (This [document] is originally the complaint of Colonel Shokrriz, commander of the unit stationed in Abadan).
Mr. Banisadr had said that we have few of these cannons and that their shells cost ten thousand dollars each, and he had calculated the dollar at the open-market rate of twenty tomans, making the cost of each shell two hundred thousand tomans.
This document states that we have thirty-seven cannon units and plenty of shells in storage, and the price of each shell is eight hundred and fifty dollars. A report on the Iran-Turkey border arrived from [Kamel Abedinzadeh], the representative of Khoy, indicating that suspicious movements were being seen there. I sent a copy of it to the Imam.
Mr. [Hossein] Hosseini [Va'ez Ramiani], representative of Minudasht [Ramian], whose soldier son's leg had been amputated, wanted to use military aircraft to transport him from Urmia, and contact was made. Mr. Mohammad Mojtahed Shabestari came and sought explanations for over an hour regarding the nature of our (the Line of the Imam's) disagreement with the liberals (Mr. Banisadr, the Freedom Movement, etc.), and I said that the issue is over "Jurisprudential Islam" (Eslam-e Feghahati).
They do not accept this jurisprudence, and we see no way in Islamic government other than implementing this very jurisprudence (with more work and living ijtihad), and I cited many examples showing that this is, in fact, the Imam's desire, and we have served as a shield.
I was scheduled to attend a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council; I went, but no one was there, so I came home. I had been invited to this meeting by Mr. [Mohammad-Ali] Movahedi Kermani to discuss and make decisions regarding the situation of unfit clerics.
