Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 5, 1989

On the way to the assembly, I went to Mohammad's brother's house to see Hajiya Waldeh. They came from Nog. They were fine, although old age has worn them down. Mohammad also came from the office. After the meeting, I went to the parliament.

Mr. [Sadiq] Khalkhali [the representative of Qom] came. He expressed his displeasure with Mr. Montazeri's problem and emphasized on solving the problem. Dr. [Abdullah] Jasbi [President of Islamic Azad University] came. He inquired about the foreign currency needs of Islamic Azad University and the approval of the bylaws and inquired about the issue of Mr. Montazeri and the issue of the future leadership of the presidency and the government.

In the afternoon, Mustafa Davudzadeh came with [Ali Akbar] Ahmadian from the IRGC Navy. They offered to buy war boats from China. I told them to look for a better one. In the evening, the President of the Parliament had a meeting. The weekly order and administrative matters were reviewed and current issues were discussed. They expressed concern about the management of the parliament if I leave the parliament. Dr. [Hasan] Rouhani [Chief of Staff of Khatam camp] came. About the trip to China and the desired topics as well as current issues were discussed

Mr. [Khosro] Aruj came. He inquired about the recent issues of the protection of Ayatollah Montazeri's house and reported about the replacement of his guards in Najafabad. They themselves insist that [those guards] stay, and the concern that exists is due to the severity of some of them. I told them not to be strict and do not hurt them more than this.

I protested to Mr. [Ali] Razini [Head of the Judiciary Organization of the Armed Forces] regarding the arrest of Mr. [Mohammed] Kothari [Commander of the 27th Division of Hazrat Rasool (PBUH)] by phone and ordered to release him. I worked in my office until half past eight at night. Mr. [Sidhadi] Khosrowshahi came. He thought the meeting was in my office tonight. I came home We had dinner with Mohsen and Eft. Efat quoted from Mrs. Shahid Beheshti that Mrs. [Monireh] Gurji spoke against Mr. Montazeri in a meeting; Mrs. Beheshti and Efat were upset.

I went to visit Imam. We talked about the current situation. They are fine. Towards evening Timsar [Ali] Shahbazi [Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff] came. He supported the merger of the army and the IRGC, but he believes that skepticism should be removed with delicacy. He is dissatisfied with the ground force [army] and intends to change. I said not to rush for now, maybe there will be an understanding. He asked for a rank for a group of army commanders.

At night, they brought me and Mahdi dinner from Imam's office. I told Dr. Rouhani on the phone about the possibility of a retaliatory attack by Iraq on the Majlis or another sensitive place, that he should take defense seriously.
