Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 27, 1981

First thing in the morning, Mr. Mohammad Darvish came to [my] home with Mr. Baqeri, his son-in-law. Darvish was heading to Kish Island on business. Mr. Baqeri, who is in the Political-Ideological [Unit] of the Officers' Academy, is satisfied with the Islamic and Hezbollahi environment of the academy and Colonel Namjou. Since the Revolution, they have admitted two cohorts of students who are Muslim and revolutionary, and he said that the third-year [class], who are students from before the victory of the Revolution, are not very impressive, and their studies are finishing these days and they will be sent to the front. He was hopeful that after this year's selection process, the academy's environment would become fully Islamic and revolutionary.

I went to visit the Imam. I consulted with the Imam regarding the trip to North Korea and the debate with the groups on television. The Imam was in agreement with both; however, he was not pleased with the idea of ourselves appearing with them on television, and his view was that non-turbaned and not very famous individuals should participate.

They had a report that the Soviet embassy was under threat by mini-groups (guruhak-ha). He advised that care be taken to prevent any incidents from being created. Regarding the claims of American companies against Iran, he said: We must not submit to force, nor recognize the legitimacy of unjust claimed rights. It was decided that he would issue a message for the anniversary of the martyrdom of the late Motahhari.

Before noon, we had a Bylaws Committee meeting. In the afternoon, I attended a meeting of the guards (Pasdars) protecting Parliament and answered their questions. I had an interview with Ettela'at newspaper on the occasion of the anniversary of Mr. Motahhari's martyrdom. We had discussions regarding the quality of filming the Parliament sessions and broadcasting them.

Engineer Bazargan came, and we had a detailed discussion regarding the positions of the Freedom Movement (Nehzat-e Azadi) against the government, the law, and the current situation of the country. He had no proper answer as to why, contrary to their own beliefs, they were cooperating with Bani-Sadr against Rajai, and he complained that the government was not utilizing their personnel. He raised this as monopolism on the part of the Islamic Republican Party, to which he received a sufficient response. The discussion was postponed to another time. The Mojahedin-e Khalq caused unrest in Tehran, and a group of them was arrested.
