The success of Jean-Marie Le Pen, the leader of the far-right in France, and reaching the second round of the elections, has caused an earthquake in Europe, especially in France, and since the announcement of this news, large demonstrations have been held against him in 20 French cities. Most European leaders have advised the French people to vote for Chirac in the second round. Only the United States has refused to comment. In his campaigns, Le Pen has made harsh nationalist slogans, saying that he will revoke the validity of the euro in France, make the franc the official currency of the country, and also take France out of the European Union.

Yesterday, the UN Human Rights Commission rejected the proposal for human rights violations in Iran, and after 20 years of repeatedly voting for human rights violations in Iran, it did not vote this time.

Mr. [Mehdi] Karroubi, [Speaker of Parliament], has prevented the prosecution of [Shahram] Jazaeri's case, and Mr. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami, [the President], has prevented the prosecution of the Petropars case, saying that the Supreme Leader's action is practically fruitless.

The meeting of the heads of the countries of the Caspian coast was held today in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, and Mr. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami is also present. It was reported that he had become unwell during the meeting and had been transferred to the hospital, probably due to a recurrence of the disc, and we are waiting for clarification.  

Today, Sheikh Hossein Hashemian [my cousin] suffered a brain hemorrhage and is hospitalized in the CCU of the hospital. I asked Dr. [Seyyed Mahmoud] Tabataba'i how he was doing, and he said that he was taking psychiatric medication and blood thinning because of heart surgery, and because of the high blood thinner, he was bleeding and had to undergo brain surgery.

[UN Secretary-General] Kofi Annan had previously appointed a fact-finding mission headed by former Finnish President Terry Rod Larsen, but Israel has opposed his chairmanship. In Israel, the detention of Mr. Marwan Barghouti on charges of leading martyrdom operations has been extended for another 25 days.
