I was at home until the afternoon. Studying, resting, and doing household chores filled my time. In last night's missile attack on Dezful, 40 people were martyred and 200 were injured. The government has declared public mourning. In the afternoon, together with the President, the Prime Minister, and the Chief Justice, we went to see the Imam. We consulted about attacking Iraqi cities with artillery. The Imam opposed it and ordered patience, saying that we are not against the people of Iraq. It was decided that regarding how to continue the war, we would wait for the commanders' opinions.
At the Imam's office, in the presence of Mr. Hadi [Najafabadi] and Dr. Velayati, the Foreign Minister, we discussed how Mr. Hadi's negotiations with [the officials of] Saudi Arabia should proceed, and the necessary decisions were made. It was decided that he would go to Saudi Arabia within the next two or three days. Late at night I returned home. The children were guests at their uncle's house. I watched the news and footage of the people's reaction in Dezful. Contrary to the reports, the footage showed the people to be in very high spirits. Dr. Velayati reported positive responses from the Soviets. Considering the way they had dealt with the Tudeh members and with the Soviet Union itself, it is important and noteworthy.
