Mehdi Hashemi's Consultation for the Final Edition of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's 1983 Diaries

The continuation of the arrest and trial of a number of members of the Sixth Majlis, the criticism of Sheikh Mohammad Yazdi and Sheikh Ali Meshkini, the speeches of Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, and the support of students for Hossein Loghmanian in Hamedan

Full text of the diary:

I was at home. Most of the time was spent reading. Mehdi said that he had studied most of the memoirs of 1983 [Calm and Challenge] for editing. The controversy over the trial of the representatives of the Majlis is heated; the parties of participation and the Mojahedin of the Revolution have opposed, but in today's Friday prayers, most of the Friday Imams have approved it, and Mr. [Mohammad] Yazdi, in the Friday prayers in Tehran, and Mr. [Ali] Meshkini, in the Qom [Friday prayer], have criticized the unreasonable expectations and words of the leftist representatives.

Mr. Shahroudi, [the Head of the Judiciary], also made it clear last night that the representatives do not have judicial immunity and are not attacked just for the performance of their duties. The statement of the Tehran Judiciary frankly and harshly rejected the demands of the deputies and declared some examples of their statements to be insults, lies, and crimes.

Yesterday in Hamadan, a group of students – about 200 people – in favor of Mr. [Hossein] Loghmanian, [Hamedan's representative], chanted slogans such as "Long live Mullah Omar, long live Jannati Abinda" and "Hashemi Iraqi, resign, resign." Foreign media also write and say against the judiciary.

The United States carried out airstrikes on some villages in Afghanistan yesterday and today, and [Hamid Karzai], [interim prime minister], said that with the suppression of terrorists and the Taliban, Afghanistan should no longer be bombed. Russia has opposed the presence of US military forces in Central Asia, but despite the end of the war in Afghanistan, the US continues to bring troops to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and take bases, which can be a reason for Mr. Alishahi's statements [about Russia's main role in the September 11 attacks].

The pressure on the Palestinians by Israel continues. Three months after the explosions on September 11 [= September 11] in New York, the fires under the rubble have been extinguished and the stagnation in Western air transport programs continues. OPEC today agreed to cut 1.5 million barrels per day, and non-OPEC.
