Continuing the Controversies Surrounding the Reformist Government as Recounted by Hashemi

Complete Daily Entry:

Mr. Mostafa Broujerdi, who has recently been appointed as Iran's ambassador to the Vatican, came for a farewell and consultation. He provided valuable information about the Vatican, its more than 150 embassies worldwide, and its revenues from donations and other sources. He also mentioned Pope John Paul II's willingness to visit Iran and discussed the Vatican's rapprochement with Israel, which has been historically viewed with animosity due to centuries of conflict with Jews, who have been regarded as responsible for the death of Jesus Christ.

Mr. Hossein Rahimzadeh, the Secretary of the Government Board, came to discuss the current unproductive and lethargic atmosphere of the government. He had questions regarding his master's thesis, which focuses on the factors contributing to the weaknesses in the country's foreign policy. My brother, Mohammad, the head of the Central Council of Kargozaran, informed me that they had prepared a strong statement regarding the resignation of Mr. Ataollah Mohajerani but have since decided against it, opting instead to rely on the comments made by Mr. Gholamhossein Karbaschi.

In the evening, the Combatant Clergy Association held a meeting at my office, and they were my guests for iftar. We discussed the clergy's situation in Tehran and criticized the distribution of highly confidential documents of the system in Ayatollah Montazeri's memoirs. Dr. Hassan Rouhani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, expressed his criticism of the manner in which negotiations with the Iraqis were conducted, stating that the Iraqis are approaching the talks with indifference.

Western media has increased its negative interpretations of Mr. Mohammad Khatami, portraying him as a defeated leader of an ineffective government that has failed to fulfill its promises. The conflicts in Palestine also continue to expand.
