Full Text of the Daily Memo:

Mr. [Gholamreza] Shafiee, the former Minister of Industries, who has recently been appointed as Iran's ambassador in Moscow, came for a farewell and consultation. I provided reminders regarding the Caspian Sea, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, oil and gas pipelines, and Central Asia. His family will not accompany him due to the education of their children.

Mr. Alireza Noori, [a representative from Tehran], came to follow up on the pardon for his brother [Sheikh Abdullah Noori]. I mentioned that the Leader believes he must compensate for his harmful statements. He said he had recently been given a statement against Israel to read in a pre-speech, which has changed his spirit, and moreover, if he is outside [of prison], he will voluntarily respond to Ayatollah Montazeri’s writings. He criticized the proposed cabinet to Parliament, especially [Mr. Massoud Pezeshkian], the proposed minister for health and treatment, stating that he has an outdated mindset reminiscent of 1978 and holds unacceptable and unimplementable views. He reported that Mr. Khatami, [the President], has invited some leaders of the parliamentary groups to persuade them.

In the afternoon, a group of families of martyrs and Basij members from Tabas, mostly women, came. Mr. [Ebrahim] Mohajerian, the Friday Imam of Tabas, reported that due to the faith of the people in Tabas, no divorces have been recorded in the marriage and divorce offices, and there has not been a case in the courts for years. However, recently, due to unemployment, poverty, and the influence of moral corruption, signs of corruption have begun to appear. He expressed gratitude for the services provided to Tabas during the reconstruction era. I also expressed my gratitude to the people of Tabas and him, stating that with the implementation of thermal power plant projects, a tar refinery, a railway line, and the activation of the Tabas coal mine, problems will be resolved. These were part of the reconstruction plan but unfortunately have remained stagnant.

Mr. [Hossein] Marashi, [a representative from Kerman], and Ali Hashemi, [a representative from Rafsanjan], from the Parliament, came. They mentioned that Mr. [Seyyed Mohammad] Khatami had invited 30 leaders of representatives to persuade them; 12 attended but were not convinced. They said that rumors were circulating in Parliament suggesting that there was pressure from the Leader on some ministers. Hossein expressed concern about his repeated summons to the Court of Inspection due to the recent false phone allegations. Israeli tanks have entered the city of Jenin and have retreated.
