Full Entry:

I was at home. Fati consulted me about her doctoral dissertation; it is about the Persian Gulf. I provided some points. In the evening and at night, I discussed family issues regarding Sara [Fati’s daughter] and [her husband] Mohammad [Lahouti] with Saeed [Lahouti], Fati, and Sara. I read the bulletins that I had brought from my office. In today’s Friday prayers, there were attacks against the second Khordad [reformist movement] and the policy of tolerance, and the speeches took on a political tone due to the upcoming elections.

In Palestine, the clashes have intensified, and [Ariel] Sharon, [the Prime Minister of Israel], is implementing a policy of an iron fist. Armed boats have also participated in bombarding Gaza, and the policy of settlement expansion has been strengthened. Europe's attention to Ahmad Shah Massoud may create a new situation in Afghanistan. In Turkey, protests by various groups against the government's economic policy are noteworthy.

Reports indicate that this year in Isfahan, Ardabil, and other places, some mourners [during Ashura] have engaged in flagellation, which is more than in previous years, and given the ban on flagellation from the leadership, this action is being interpreted as a form of opposition to the leadership. In Najafabad, some mourning groups, while carrying pictures of Ayatollah Montazeri and protest placards against his house arrest, expressed their support for him.
