Meeting with Various Groups and Individuals:

The morning was spent meeting with several groups from the Sepah (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) protection unit, the secretariat of the Expediency Discernment Council, and various individuals who came for Eid visits. Most discussions revolved around the country's security, employment, and political situations. Mr. Seyed Hossein Mousavi, the representative of Kerman, also came separately. He spoke about the upcoming parliament and mentioned that Mr. Seyed Mohammad Khatami, the president, was influenced by our December 28th meeting. I clarified that there wasn't any significant discussion that could have led to such an impression.

Warning to Gholamhossein Karbaschi:

I sent a message to Mr. Gholamhossein Karbaschi, the editor-in-chief of the *Hammihan* newspaper, advising him to avoid being too harsh in his writing. The leadership has expressed displeasure several times about this.

Mohsen Hashemi's Report on a Meeting with Khatami's Relatives:

In the afternoon, Mohsen, the head of the Expediency Discernment Council's secretariat, came. He said that during a meeting with relatives of Mr. Khatami, they expressed their dissatisfaction with today's article in the *Asr-e Azadegan* newspaper. Apparently, the article, in response to Mr. Mohammad Ghochani, drew a negative comparison between me and Mr. Khatami and presented indefensible examples. He also mentioned that the rejection of sweets and gifts sent by Mr. Mohammad Ali Sadoughi, the Friday prayer leader of Yazd, by Ofogh [Efateh] Hashemi caused a stir in their family.

Consultation with Mohammad Hasan Tolaee on Tehran Election Recount:

In the evening, Mr. Mohammad Hasan Tolaee, the head of the Tehran Provincial Election Supervisory Board, came for consultation on how to recount the votes in Tehran. I suggested that a complete recount would be best. I also reminded Mr. Ahmad Jannati, the secretary of the Guardian Council, about this; it seems they are having problems.

News from Afghanistan and the UK:

It is said that Mohammad Ismail Khan, the governor of Herat, Afghanistan, has escaped from the Taliban prison in Kandahar and has come to Iran, and is on his way to Mashhad. Britain has announced its opposition to the capture of Jerusalem by Israel and also to the construction of a settlement on the West Bank by Israel.
