political-Electoral Meeting with Asadollah Badamchian and Consultation for the Upcoming Presidential Elections

**Meeting with Abdolrahman Nadimi Busheri, Former Governor of Bushehr and Deputy of the Industry and Mine Bank.**

Continuing with Hashemi's diabetes treatment, which appears to have intensified recently, a group visit was made by Dr. Seyyed Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabai, Dr. Baqir Larijani, and Dr. Ahad Milani-Nia, accompanied by Fatemeh Hashemi.

A meeting took place with Seyyed Reza Niyari, along with two members of Hezbollah from Lebanon, whose identities were not mentioned by Hashemi (or the publisher).

**Meeting of the Combatant Clergy Society**

**Full Daily Entry**: Mr. Asadollah Badamchian, the political secretary of the Islamic Coalition Party, came to discuss their program for the [2001 presidential] elections. They do not have a specific candidate but are focused on critiquing the performance of Mr. Seyyed Mohammad Khatami's government and highlighting its weaknesses. He inquired about my objective in emphasizing the need for cooperation among groups to resolve issues.

Mr. Abdolrahman Nadimi Busheri, former governor of Bushehr and currently the deputy head of the Industry and Mine Bank, visited. He criticized the weak economic management in the country, stating that the Industry and Mine Bank had prepared a plan that was approved but faced practical difficulties, leading to disillusionment.

At noon, Fatemeh and doctors Mahmoud Tabatabai, Baqir Larijani, and Ahad Milani-Nia came by, stressing the importance of adhering to a dietary regimen for blood sugar control.

In the afternoon, Mr. Seyyed Reza Niyari, head of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, and two members of Hezbollah from Lebanon visited. They shared their observations about the dire conditions in the Khayam prison and the relief efforts for the needy in Lebanon.

Two hundred former prisoners from Khayam prison were present and were very enthusiastic. I gave a speech, emphasizing the significance of the victory of the Islamic resistance in Lebanon and its impact on the Palestinian people. I also criticized the double standards of the UN and Western governments, which did not support the rescue of Khayam prisoners in southern Lebanon but are now making efforts to rescue three Israeli soldiers.

In the evening, the Combatant Clergy Society held a meeting in my office. We discussed the presidential elections and the admission of new members. It was decided not to have a candidate for the elections for now, encouraging individuals to engage in awareness-raising efforts.

Today, the Turkish government forced down an Iranian plane carrying medical supplies and equipment for the Palestinian people, upon Israel's request, and conducted inspections. A Singapore Airlines 747 en route to Los Angeles crashed in Thailand, resulting in many fatalities; the cause of the crash is still unknown.
