Sahar Khodayari, known as the "Blue Girl," a fan of Esteghlal Tehran football club, died on September 9, 2019, after setting herself on fire in protest of her arrest and conviction for trying to enter a stadium.

She had been arrested and sentenced to prison months earlier for attempting to watch an Esteghlal match in the AFC Champions League. Her death sparked a wave of domestic and international reactions, ultimately leading to a policy change and the limited permission for women to attend football stadiums in Iran.
