On September 10, 1979, Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Taleghani, a prominent figure in the struggle and the first Friday prayer leader of Tehran after the revolution, passed away at the age of 69.

Taleghani, a close associate of Ayatollah Khomeini and a theorist of the Islamic Revolution, with his modern interpretations of the Quran and Nahj al-Balagha, and his emphasis on concepts such as freedom, justice, and popular participation, left a profound impact on the discourse of the revolution.

His grand funeral at Behesht-e Zahra, attended by a large crowd of people and political figures, became one of the memorable scenes of that year.
