The renaming of numerous cities and regions in Iran

On the 20th of Shahrivar 1314 (September 11, 1935), one of the most important administrative decisions of the Reza Shah era was made. The Council of Ministers, following the proposal of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature, approved the renaming of numerous cities and regions in Iran .
In this resolution, names such as Nasseri to Ahvaz, Abbadan to Abadan, Abbasi to Bandar Abbas, Barforoush to Babol, Sakhtsar to Ramsar, Dehkord to Shahrekord, Mohammareh to Khorramshahr, Astarabad to Gorgan, Dozdab to Zahedan, Toon to Ferdows, Torshiz to Kashmar, and Aragh to Arak were changed .
These changes were part of the government's policy for administrative standardization and redefining the country's geographical names, and several of these names have remained in use to this day .
