According to informed sources cited by Abdi Media, Jafar Panahi is currently serving a five-year prison sentence. This sentence stems from a case initiated in 2011, where Panahi was convicted of charges including conspiracy to commit crimes against national security and propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The finalized conviction of Jafar Panahi had been kept in reserve for an opportune moment. On July 10, 2022, the prosecutor of the 33rd District Court for Security in Tehran decided to send Panahi to Evin Prison to serve his sentence.
Panahi is currently being held in Ward 8 of Evin Prison.
