Jahangiri's unspoken account of the meeting with Qassem Soleimani and Taib regarding Seyyed Mohammad Khatami

 Recently, the memoirs of Ishaq Jahangiri, the first deputy of the 11th and 12th governments, titled "Dar Andisheh Iran" has been published.

Among the important narratives of this book, it is related to his meetings with Martyr General Hajj Qassem Soleimani regarding the internal issues of the country and the solution to remove the limitations of some political figures including Seyyed Mohammad Khatami.

In a part of this memory, Jahangiri narrates:

I had high hopes for this route.  After the death of Mr. Tabasi, I raised this issue with martyr Qassem Soleimani, he was one of the people with whom we were very close, and especially during my first term in the government, we met frequently and had monthly lunch appointments in my office on a regular basis.

In these meetings, we also talked about various internal issues, I told them to come and help us solve the problem of Mr. Khatami  Sardar Soleimani welcomed and a meeting was held in his office and in addition to the two of us, Mr. Taib, the head of IRGC Intelligence Organization at the time, was also present.

The meeting was on Friday morning and had breakfast.  It was decided to talk only about Mr. Khatami, and to have a separate meeting about the prisoners.  A good summary was also made.  Everyone had a mission that had to be followed.

Unfortunately, this work was half finished with the martyrdom of Sardar Soleimani.  In addition to this, Sardar Soleimani also carried out follow-ups at different levels, which did not come to fruition either.  In December 1997 - a year before his martyrdom - in the meeting we had, he told me that the ways that we had in mind to solve the issue had reached a dead end and were "blocked".
