She stated, "The mental health issues stemming from work pressure led me to behave in a manner inconsistent with my character."

Ghahraman also mentioned, "I do not attempt to justify my behavior, but I must explain the reasons behind it."

She is the first refugee to enter the New Zealand Parliament as a representative. She left Iran with her family during her childhood and became a member of the New Zealand Parliament in 2017.

The charges against Golriz Ghahraman pertain to shoplifting at a luxury clothing store and another retail outlet.

The police have stated that they will continue their investigations into the matter.
