In an interview with Iran Watch, Tavassoli, the former secretary general of the Freedom Movement, said:
In his meeting with Mr. Khomeini, Dr. Yazdi raised the same criticisms against him, and Mr. Khomeini said that every revolution needs a shammar, and Khalkhali is our shammar. Dr. Yazdi, however, answers, "If Imam Hussein had been there, would he have given the sword to Shammar?" Or a similar interpretation. After hearing this, Mr. Khomeini remained silent and did not respond.
