11 September 19281928

The beginning of the official activities of Bank Melli Iran.

On the evening of September 11, 1928, Bank Melli Iran officially began its operations. The law establishing the bank had been approved by the parliament a few years earlier, and the bank entered its operational phase in September of that year. On this day, the first deposit was received, and its official activities commenced.

Bank Melli was intended to become the main pillar of Iran's new financial system; an institution through which the government could organize the country's monetary and financial affairs and reduce its dependence on foreign banks.

For this reason, September 11, 1928, holds significance in Iran's economic history as the day Bank Melli began its activities.
