I consulted [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei by telephone about Mr. [Mohammad-Mahdi] Rabbani [Amolashi's] employment and the transfer of conscript specialists - who are in the 88th Zahedan Division - to government services, and I criticized a statement that the [Islamic Republic Party's] Tehran organization had sent to the branches, in which it had dealt harshly with the representatives regarding the impeachment of Mr. Nateq [Nouri, Minister of Interior]. Ahmad Aqa came. He was seeking a solution to the rice situation; I said one view is that by importing more rice, we should normalize the price. He also agrees; it was decided to speak with the government.
At eleven o'clock I went to see Imam. Imam, quoting a sentence by Churchill [the famous British prime minister] who had said, «An airplane, after a person gets off it, is a good vehicle» said that after you return from your trip, I will say it was a good trip. During the trip, I have a lot of anxiety. I said, there is relative security; do not worry. I spoke a little about my trip and about the problem of the banks, concerning past loans, after the law abolishing usury, and asked Imam to resolve it somehow. A solution was also proposed, and it was decided that they would think about it. We also discussed Imam's formally assigning a position to Mr. Rabbani [Amolashi]. The position of «Imam's representative on the Supreme Defense Council» was proposed by Mr. Rabbani [Amolashi]; for now, [Imam's] view is that the second person should be military.
