At eight in the morning, we flew to Arak to open the refinery. [Mr. Gholamreza Aghazadeh], Minister of Oil, Mehdi and Yaser were also there. We landed at half past nine. In the central office, the executive of the plan and the head of the refinery and the oil minister gave explanations. Then we visited the huge facilities of the refinery, ultra-modern control room, furnace, distillation tower and other units and toured the level of the refinery. About one billion dollars and twenty billion rials were spent, the construction period was four years and it was finished on time.
With one hundred and fifty thousand [barrels] of crude oil feed per day in the first phase, it is the most modern refinery in the country. It also feeds the huge petrochemical plant that is next to the refinery, and it will run out soon. I gave a speech to the employees and encouraged them. Prayer, lunch, rest and radio and television interview were done.
We had a meeting with the officials of the [central] province. They explained the functions and needs and provided support for the needs of the province and especially Shazand city. One of the wishes of the Shazandites was that the name of the refinery should be "Shazand Refinery". I said that if the provincial officials agree, we will accept it. It is not right to interfere with such disputes of the province from the center. They said that it is interesting about the many services in the construction of villages, water and electricity, roads, health, etc.
From there we went to Shazand by car. On the way, the Friday imam and the governor gave explanations and said that the coordination of all the officials and the Friday imam is interesting in Arak. We toured the city, people were gathered in the stadium and the city was quiet. It was a huge community. From the villages too
had come Some villages had their own special needs. The imam of Juma Shahr and the representative of Khair Moghaddam said, and I also spoke. I told about the progress of the province and the city. They had warm feelings. We flew to Tehran and arrived around seven in the afternoon.
