Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – November 23, 1982

I studied from six to eight. In the open session of Parliament, the statute of Jihad was under discussion. We were delayed a lot because there were many amendment proposals. They removed propaganda and cultural services from Jihad's objectives, and the Jihad members became very upset. Several questions for the Minister of the Interior were raised. The representatives from Khuzestan spoke harshly and aggressively against the former and current acting heads of the Foundation for War Victims' Affairs.

The Friday prayer leaders of Khorasan came to see me at noon. They were guests of Parliament for lunch, and I spoke to them and their bodyguards. A few Sunnis were among them as well. Their leader was Mr. [Abolhassan] Shirazi, the Friday prayer leader of Mashhad. They said that in Qom they had only met Ayatollah [Hossein Ali] Montazeri. Then the members of the Industries Commission came and were upset about the suspension of the Industrial Protection Law and wanted a solution. They said that pressure from capitalists had brought matters to this point, and we talked about it for a while.

In the afternoon I had several meetings; among them, retired notaries who were complaining about the Minister of Finance. I also had an interview with Shahed magazine from the Martyrs Foundation. I also met with Messrs. [Seyyed Taqi] Khamoshi and Heydari, who were upset about attacks from the officials of the Rafsanjan Pistachio Cooperative Company because they believed the Ministry of Commerce was obstructing pistachio exports. Mr. Safaei, the head of the Army's Political-Ideological Office, came and complained about the deputy commander of the Ground Forces and the chief of staff and wanted help with his work. A number of Revolutionary Guard officials came early in the evening, and I spoke to them. At eight at night I returned home. The children of my late brother Haj Qasem came. We went to bed late.
