Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – November 15, 1987

I came to the parliament on time. It turned out that we have a joint meeting of the government board and the Supreme Defense Council and the Supreme War Support Council. I did not go to the parliament meeting and went to the presidential center to participate in the joint meeting that lasted until noon. Members of the government raised questions about the war and general mobilization, which were answered and I gave a detailed answer.

I returned to the parliament at noon. It turned out that there was a conflict in the public meeting regarding the election of a parliament member in the Broadcasting Council, and Mr. [Mohammed] Yazdi and Mr. Hadi Ghafari got into a fight and insulted each other. Mr. Mohsen Rezaei came at lunch time. We had lunch together and talked about war and military industries.

The members of the presiding committee of the parliament came and said that there was a difference of opinion in the parliament regarding the validity or invalidity of today's voting. After the investigation, my opinion is that the election is doomed to be true. As a result, Mr. Ferdowsipour and Fadaei have been elected as the main and alternates, and Mr. [Esdaleh] Bayat and Azizi have failed. This result is somewhat unexpected.

In the evening, a group of employees of the Ministry of Information came. I spoke for them. Then a group of commanders of the 10th division of Seyyed al-Shahada came and I spoke for them.

At night, the military leaders were my guests in the parliament. The Ministry of Information announced that it had secret talks with former French Foreign Minister Duma in Germany about the French hostages in Lebanon and the normalization of relations. Second, we tried not to do these things with the Chirac group and to do them with the socialists. It was agreed that their negotiations will continue and it is suggested that such negotiations be accepted with the American Democrats for special purposes through a non-responsible person.

The meeting ordered Mr. Ray Shahri to inform Qom intelligence not to arrest Mr. Seyyed Hadi Hashemi and that the news in the information bulletin about the speech of Seyed Hadi's wife [daughter of Ayatollah Montazeri] at the mourning meeting of Seyed Mehdi Hashemi, should be denied by Beit Ayatollah Montazeri. Today, there were air strikes from Iraq, in which two of its planes were shot down.
