Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – May 30, 1982

I studied until 7:30 AM. We had an open session. The Water Bill was on the agenda. It made some progress. In the afternoon, Fati came with a question regarding foreign policy and our relations with the Soviet Union, which I answered.

Messrs. Hamedani and Meshkini, the supervisors of the student and pupil branches of the [Islamic] Republican Party, came. They had objections to the party's draft job descriptions recently prepared; it was decided to raise the issue in the council.

I gave a television interview about the Tragedy of Hafte Tir and the bombing at the central office of the Islamic Republican Party. I attended the Central Council meeting of the party at Mr. Khamenei's office. Ahmad Aqa and Mr. Natiq-Nouri were attending for the first time.

They reported that in the afternoon, a bomb exploded on the third floor of the Palace of Justice, targeting the Prosecutor-General of the country; thank God, they were unsuccessful. Usually, following any of our victories at the fronts, the Hypocrites [Mojahedin-e Khalq] engage in such actions to sour the people's sweet mood and overshadow news of the victory. The Iraqis launched an airstrike on Kharg Island, causing minor damage.

The consultative meeting of the heads of the branches was also held. We discussed the Supreme Judicial Council and ways to strengthen and activate it. Prosecutor Mr. Rabbani [Amleshi] also attended and protested against the interviews published in the *Jomhuri-ye Eslami* newspaper criticizing the Judicial Council.
