We had breakfast in the presence of Mr. Montazeri at his home. Messrs. Mohsen Rezaei and [Reza] Seifollahi came, and we discussed how to proceed following the Imam’s statements. After saying goodbye, I went to the home of Ayatollah [al-Uzma] Najafi Marashi. He had returned from Spain, where he had gone for eye treatment. The discussion turned to his library. I visited the library. It is a comprehensive library, with more than one hundred thousand books and valuable old manuscripts, and it has a well-equipped film and microfilm facility. It was his personal library, which he had endowed, and he was concerned about its administration after his death. I suggested that he make it affiliated with the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
We then went to the Islamic Republic Party headquarters and spoke for a while with the members. They are working relatively well. They said they sell four thousand tomans’ worth of their selected books a day, and also produce and distribute three hundred good-quality tapes a day. They have good classes. There, I gave a television interview about my trip to Qom and the 15 Khordad uprising.
We set out for Tehran. On the way, I listened to the Friday prayer sermon and went directly to Tehran University, where I attended the Friday prayers. I came home. Effat had gone with the children and Hossein Agha Marashi to Eram Park (formerly Khorram Park). There had been a confrontation there because of the officials’ mistreatment of the people. They had called the house and asked someone to go and see what was happening. Mr. Rahmani, a Revolutionary Guard, went and came back, and Effat was very upset and is still upset. If it happened as she says, she is in the right; they should be taught a lesson. God willing, I will look into it.
