Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – March 8, 1983

I did some work at home and went to Parliament. The budget bill was brought up. The commission's rapporteur and the opponents and supporters spoke. It will continue like this for another two or three days. Around noon I handed over the administration of the session to Mr. Yazdi and spoke to the spectators, who were the IRGC forces from Rasht [and members of the Islamic Associations of Firuzkuh].

At noon Mr. [Abdolvahed] Mousavi Lari came and reported on his trip to Germany, France, and the southern Persian Gulf. He spoke about the disputes between students and the German and French embassies, Hezbollah's successes in the French student environment, the pressure by the Germans on Islamic students, and our embassy in Dubai's opposition to Mr. Borqa'i, who had previously been the Imam's representative.

Mr. Ashtiani, who is in charge of Parliament's vehicles, came. He had brought a valuable rug from his own property for the war and reported that his son had gone missing in Operation Valfajr. (How good the people are). In the afternoon Dr. Arani, one of Bani-Sadr's friends who had been purged, came seeking help. Clerics from Buin Zahra came and insisted that the region be made into a county. Mr. Kowsari, a eulogist of the Ahl al-Bayt, came and recited the mourning of Lady Fatimah (PBUH) for us. I gave him a gift. He is a very good reciter.

Two people from the Islamic Republic Party in Khomein came and complained about the disputes in Khomein and the positions taken by Mr. [Gholamreza] Rezvani, a member of the Guardian Council, and about Mr. Qoreishi. I instructed them to cooperate with Mr. Jalali—the Friday prayer leader who had recently gone to Khomein—and warned them against discord. A group from Tarbiat Modares University came and spoke about the weak management of the Cultural Revolution Headquarters and the opposition of university professors, and asked for help.

Two people from the Feyziyeh and University Cooperation Headquarters came and invited me to participate in their seminar and brought their publications. Mr. Golsorkhi came from India and gave a report on the situation in India and Pakistan and the lack of cooperation from the Indian embassy with him, and asked for help in obtaining foreign currency. I read some reports and took care of administrative work.
