Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – March 15, 1984

I went to the assembly early in the morning. I read the reports. The conference of foreign ministers of 18 Arab countries - in Baghdad - has passed a resolution in favor of Iraq and against us. In the public meeting, the work on the budget notes was finished and the budget was approved with about 400 hours of work in the commission and 67 hours in the public meeting.

Before noon, we had a meeting in the president's office with the presence of Mr. Sayad [Shirazi], [Mohsen] Rezaei, [Rahim] Safavi, and Qavidel regarding future operations. The operation time and operation plan and combat organization were approved. It was decided that after the consolidation of Majnoon Islands, the army will take over its protection.

From the Najaf base, Mr. Shamkhani informed that the enemy attacked us in Talaiyeh and after causing casualties on one axis, he retreated and engaged in another axis. I made two marriage contracts for my office worker and a martyr's wife. Mr. Agha Rahimi [the representative of Shahrbabak] came and complained about the opposition of Imam Juma of Shahrbabak in the upcoming elections. Mr. Shahraki also came and said that he does not want to be a candidate in Zabul. Mr. Ahmed Kashani also came and complained about the government. He introduced people for the Majlis and other positions. Mr. [Mohsen] Makhmalbaf - who wrote the scenario of Sheikh Fazlullah Nouri's series - came with Mr. Zand and I raised some major problems about it; Including the fact that he considered the constitution infamous and the product of the efforts of English Freemasons. It was supposed to be corrected.

At night, we had a meeting of the [Islamic Republic] party's central council to [discuss] the elections.
