Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 28, 1982

I went to the Majlis to give a speech at the rally held for the June 28 martyrs. A massive crowd had gathered in front of the Majlis; I spoke for a while and read out the names of the seventy-three martyrs. Effat and Mehdi had also accompanied me.

At noon, Mr. [Habibollah] Asgaroladi [Minister of Commerce] came to meet me at the Majlis. He spoke about economic issues, the need to focus on the private sector, and disagreements within the government.

I came home and rested until 5:00 PM. In the afternoon, Ahmad Aqa came, and we discussed the issues surrounding the war in Lebanon based on the Imam's guidance. We also discussed Mr. [Mohammad-Reza] Mahdavi Kani's resignation from heading the Revolutionary Committees due to differences of opinion with Mr. [Ali-Akbar] Nategh [Nouri] following the Majlis's approval to transfer control of the Committees to the Ministry of Interior.

Information was received from Mr. Khamenei's office and the Imam's office stating that Iraqi military forces have withdrawn from Qasr-e Shirin and surrounding areas. In light of the meeting between the IRGC, the Army, and the Imam, as well as the discussions regarding the war in Lebanon, they requested a Supreme Defense Council meeting to be convened for tomorrow.

Mr. Mohsen Rafighdoost, who returned from Syria last night, came to see me today and expressed concern that our resources in Syria remain idle. It was decided that he would present this matter to the Imam.
