Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 25, 1982

I read at home until 10:00 AM. Then I went to the university to lead the Friday prayers. I delivered a sermon on the effects of fasting and piety, and another sermon reviewing the Islamic Revolution, the Third Revolution, and the lies in Saddam's speech.

In the afternoon, I spoke with Ahmad Aqa on the phone regarding the situation in Lebanon, where Israel is achieving a complete victory, the National Salvation Front is consolidating its position, the Palestinians are gradually being defeated, and our assistance is not proving very effective. We agreed he would speak with the Imam. He later came to my house and said that the Imam is opposed to sending troops to Lebanon.

I spoke with Mr. Khamenei over the phone. We agreed to meet with the Imam so that a clear stance could be adopted. I also consulted with him regarding the location for the Friday prayer grounds (Mosalla). The choice was between the Vali-e-Asr Barracks (Eshratabad) and Abbas Abad. At night, Dr. Vahid Dastjerdi came, and we discussed the situation at Evin Prison and many other matters.
