Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 20, 1983

After the morning prayer, I did not sleep. I read some of my memories concerning the days of Mr. Bani-Sadr's removal from office and the bombing at the central office of the Islamic Republic Party [Islamic], for an article I am working on. After the seven o'clock news, I went to sleep. The Prime Minister's Office reported that last night Iraqi agents in Tehran had attempted to assassinate two members of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. One attempt was unsuccessful, while in the other, Mr. Khalisi was wounded and two assailants were arrested. I stressed that they should investigate thoroughly; they must have a network.

Mr. [Mir-Hossein Mousavi], the Prime Minister, said that the Japanese had come and were negotiating about continuing work on the petrochemical construction project. Mr. Gharazi, the Minister of Oil, is trembling because the members of the [Parliament] Oil Commission have questioned them over Mr. Ebrahimi's complaint. Around noon, Ahmad Aqa came. We talked about the command of the Revolutionary Guards, the Imam's representative in the Guards, and the problem of high prices. Some of the time was spent reading reports.

At three in the afternoon, I went to Parliament to attend the Rules of Procedure Commission. People from the [Parliament] Public Relations Office came for consultation on the relevant matters. I advised them to refrain from exaggerating the role of the Speaker of Parliament. We went to the Presidency Office for iftar; in the presence of some members of the government, we discussed the causes of high prices and ways to combat them; it remained unfinished, and it was decided that the meetings would continue until a result was reached. At midnight, I returned to Parliament. I slept a little and woke up to eat the pre-dawn meal.
