Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – June 1, 1983

Until the afternoon, I was at home and mostly studying the book “Muntakhab al-Athar” for the Friday sermon about the Mahdi(aj). I went to the exhibition introducing the week of the Parliament; it is not bad. I found the museum itself more interesting. Until six in the afternoon, we had a meeting of the presiding board. Dr. Ghoravi came to my office at the suggestion of Mr. the President; to examine me regarding the mild pain I have recently been feeling in my back. His opinion was that the spine is healthy and the pain is related to the muscles; he prescribed special exercises. Mr. Alviri [representative of Damavand] came; to obtain permission to go to Italy, on behalf of the Industries Commission, to inspect the purchases of the Ministry of Mines [and Metals] and for Mobarakeh Steel.

Early in the evening, at the President's office, we had a meeting attended by the heads of the branches and Ahmad Aqa, to decide on the policy for the trial of members of the Tudeh Party; it was decided that, for the time being, they should not be tried in the provinces and should wait until the trial of the party leaders is held in the capital and a decision is made. The time of the trial should also be after the IRGC interrogators announce their readiness. It was decided that the Supreme Judicial Council should issue a circular to the courts so that agricultural lands that had previously been transferred to farmers would remain in their possession for the time being, until the land bill is settled in Parliament, and no order for their return should be issued. We had dinner and I returned to Parliament. It was decided that [Ayatollah] Mr. Khamenei would meet with Imam tomorrow and discuss the lands and the Cultural Revolution Headquarters and... with Imam. I slept in Parliament that night.
