I wrote the two days of delayed memoirs. We had a public session, and the bill on political parties was on the agenda. Several articles were approved. I invited the new head of my office to begin work. Mr. Sadatian is a third-year electrical engineering student. He is a member of the Islamic Republican Party and has been in Germany for a year. After this tragedy [7 Tir], he decided to work in Iran in order to make up for the shortage of personnel. Mr. Zamani, my head of office who was martyred, was one of these people.

The brother of the martyred Mr. Zamani came to see me. He works at the Iranian Cultural Center in India. Because of his mother, he has decided not to return to India.

In the afternoon, we had a meeting of the Supreme Defense Council. General Zahir-Nejad had been summoned. There was extensive discussion to examine his differences of opinion with Mr. [Valiollah] Fallahi. We made no progress in resolving the disagreement.

It was decided that they should take action at the front and launch an operation very soon to suppress the invading Ba'athist Iraqi forces. He spoke of a shortage of ammunition, and a commitment was made to provide it. Following my trip to Khuzestan at the beginning of the year and my discussions with the commanders at the front, followed by consultations and follow-ups, operational plans had been prepared, but with Bani-Sadr in charge, things had been moving slowly.

News came that one of the navy’s warships had been damaged and partially sunk near Khark. Mr. Fallahi said that it had been involved in an accident at sea and was being repaired. We had suffered no casualties.

News arrived that Engineer [Ali] Ansari, the governor of Gilan, had been martyred and his deputy, Engineer [Alireza] Nouri, had been wounded in an assassination by the counter-revolutionaries. We are facing intense and widespread terrorism without proper security measures in place.

Near sunset, I went to the hospital to visit Mr. Khamenei. He was doing better. I told him about the bombing of the Party office and the deaths of a number of people, but he was told that Mr. Beheshti had been wounded. It was decided that they would tell him everything later. Colonel Namjou had been summoned today and given guidance regarding his new position. He will gradually begin handling current affairs. Ahmad-Aqa Khomeini also came. We went to our house for iftar together. We had an opportunity to discuss many matters.

Mr. [Ali] Larijani, the head of IRIB, also came and complained about the disagreements between Mr. [Ali] Jannati and Mr. [Hassan] Rouhani, the two members of the supervisory council.
