Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 2, 1993

For breakfast, I ate milk and brastok, which is a corn product. Like yesterday, today my stomach is better and does not feel sour. At nine o'clock in the morning, the members of the board of directors and the general assembly of Jihad Company came to build a house. Mr. [Serajuddin] Kazrouni, Mohsen Rezaei, [Gholamreza] Faruzesh and... explained the program. This plan is for the construction of 200,000 residential units, using a bank loan, IRGC land, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, IRGC and Jihad construction machinery, and part of the included forces, half of which will be offered to the soldiers and half to the general public. I told Mr. [Mohsen] Noorbakhsh, [Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance], that twenty-five billion Tomans should be given to them annually.

Dr. [Hasan] Habibi, [first vice president], came for current affairs and budget. [Mr. Hamed Ansari], the Indian ambassador, came to say goodbye. I did the work until the evening. In the evening Mr. Nourbakhsh, [Mohammed Hossein] Adeli, [CEO of Central Bank] and [Asghar Fakhrieh] Kashan, [Deputy Foreign Exchange of Central Bank] came. They explained the currency situation, foreign commitments and future plans.

At night, the Supreme Council of National Security had a meeting. The issues of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the type of cooperation, the issues of Afghanistan, the position of Hizb-e-Wahdat Islami against the [Burhanuddin] Rabbani government, the release of Iraqi prisoners, and the gathering of heads of Islamic countries in Dakar, [the capital of Senegal], were discussed and decided.

Mr. [Ali] Fallahian, [Information Minister], announced after dinner that one of the important members of the royalists, who came to Iran from Turkey, brought valuable information about the network and their operatives. I arrived home at half past nine. There was no one. I got the news at half past ten and went to sleep.
